Favorite Places & Spaces--New York, NY

I'm constantly asked what my favorite US city is and I typically respond with "San Diego" or "Seattle" or "Austin" but if I'm completely honest New York is the one city that I actually miss when I go too long without visiting.

Its a magical place.

Here are a few of my favorite spots in the city. Just a few mind you ;).

Food
Le Gigot
18 Cornelia St., New York, NY 10014 (Off of Bleaker St.)
French Cuisine
Literally the best crab cake I've ever tasted!
Tiny restaurant that reminds me of the cafes in Paris.
Note: They only take cash or AMEX

Ample Hills Creamery
623 Vanderbilt Ave., Brooklyn, NY (Corner of St. Mark's)
With flavors like Autumn in New York (Mulled Apple Cider Sorbet sweetened with New York Maple Syrup and a bit of Amaretto) and Sweet as Honey (Homemade Honey Comb Candy in a Sweet Cream Ice Cream) you'll never hear the words "chocolate or vanilla" at this spot.  Boring ice cream lovers beware!

Le Parker Meridian Burger Joint
119 W. 56th St. New York, NY 10019
The only time I've been here when there wasn't a line through the lobby of the uber posh Le Parker Meridian was at 9:00 at night. I love this spot because its literally hidden behind a black curtain in the middle of the lobby of one of New York's swankiest hotels. And it is GRUNGE.  Think graffiti and signatures over every surface (walls, tables, EVERYTHING), burgers that come one of two ways (with or without cheese) and AMAZING french fries.

Crumbs
Best cupcakes ever!  Not for the calorically conscious.

Fish
280 Bleaker St., New NY 10014 (Between Jones St. & 7th Avenue S.)

Serendipity 3
225 East 60th Street, New York, NY 10022
Okay so its definitely touristy but the frozen hot chocolate is incredible!  This is a very topsy turvy whimsical Alice in Wonderland world. They also have a $1,000 Ice Cream Sundae with flecks of real gold if you're feeling like a high roller. The wait is long if you go at peak times but they're open late or go around 3pm and you shouldn't have more than a 20 minute wait.

Shopping
The Strand Bookstore
828 Broadway, New York, NY 10003 (Corner of 12th & Broadway)
Almost 100 year old bookstore boasting 18 miles of new, rare and used books.
Incredibly helpful and knowledgeable staff.

Brandy Melville
83 Spring St. New York, NY 10012 (between Crosby St. & Broadway)
One of my favorite stores in Soho.  Cute clothes on a shoestring budget. Very one size fits most. Think Olson twins baggy grunge but chic shirts with leggings.

Aritzia
524 Broadway, New York, NY 10012
While this boutique is not native to New York it one of my very favorites in the city. They have a broad range of price points to accommodate most budgets and the clothes are fashionable yet classic.

Ritual Vintage
377 Broom St. New York, NY 10013
Teeny tiny store with lots of fun finds.  Their discount bin has tons of treasures!

Museums
The Met
By far my very favorite museum in the city. P

The MOMA
Free Tickets on Fridays from 4pm-8pm

The Museum of Natural History
Their under the sea exhibit is fantastic! The Native American exhibit mildly scares me (and reminds me of Night at the Museum).

Misc.
Brooklyn Bridge

Please Don't Tell
The Speak Easy on the other side of Crif Dogs.  The secret is calling after 3pm to get reservations.
